Skin concern guide

Dry skin is a skin type: it produces less oil. Dehydrated skin is a condition: it's short on water. That means even oily skin can be dehydrated — and in Bangkok, it often is.
Air-conditioning pulls moisture out of the air and out of your skin, hour after hour. Then you step outside into heat and sweat, step back in, and repeat. Add over-cleansing and strong actives and the skin barrier struggles to hold on to water.
The routine
Morning
Cleanse gently
Water or a mild, low-pH cleanser.
Layer hydration
Two thin layers of hydrating toner or essence, pressed in.
Serum
Hyaluronic acid on damp skin.
Seal
A gel-cream or light cream, then sunscreen.
Evening
Double cleanse
Oil cleanser, then a gentle foam.
Layer hydration
Toner or essence, then a hydrating serum.
Seal
A moisturiser with ceramides or squalane.
Extra
Sheet mask
Once or twice a week, especially after a flight or a long day in air-con.

Look for

Avoid
Using hyaluronic acid on dry skin and stopping there
Apply to damp skin and seal with moisturiser.
Hot showers
They strip oils and leave skin tighter.
Too many exfoliants
Dehydrated skin needs a strong barrier, not more acids.
Forgetting to drink water
It won't fix skin on its own, but dehydration doesn't help.
