Our approach

Body Care, chosen for Bangkok

In Bangkok, your arms, neck, chest and legs get far more sun than at home — and usually far less protection. Body care here is about three things: staying fresh in the heat, protecting skin from UV, and soothing it when you've had too much.

Thai body care has deep roots. Herbal salt and tamarind scrubs, turmeric and lemongrass have been part of Thai bathing traditions for generations, and they make some of the most loved souvenirs from the stall. Korean and Japanese body care adds lightweight lotions and body sunscreens that don't feel greasy in 35°C heat.

Buying guide

How to choose body care for the tropics

Lighter textures, more sunscreen and a little ritual.
A white body lotion bottle

Lightweight hydration, every day

After a shower, while skin is still damp, a fast-absorbing lotion keeps skin smooth without feeling sticky under clothes. Save richer creams for elbows, knees, heels — and for the cool season.

Salt and herbal body scrub ingredients on wood

Scrub — gently and not too often

Thai herbal scrubs are a treat once or twice a week. More often can irritate skin, especially in the sun. Skip scrubbing on sunburned, freshly shaved or broken skin.

Don't forget body sunscreen

Arms, the back of the neck, the chest and the tops of the feet burn quickly at the market or on the beach. Sprays and gel-lotions make generous application easier. Reapply after swimming or heavy sweating.
